Laceby Manor Resort specified MiTek’s Posi-Joist for its new sustainable spa

Earlier this year Laceby Manor Resort opened the doors to its new sustainable spa, offering visitors a unique, holistic wellness experience, from its cutting-edge facility.

MiTek’s Posi-Joist was integral to the build, seeing the entire floor and roof of the spa installed in a record seven days and the facility complete in just 15 months.

These impressive time savings were made possible using Posi-Joist with DWB Timber Engineering assembling the rafter and joist components off-site in its factory, before transporting the parts to site for installation.

Having the £3.5m bespoke build complete and open for summer 2022 was a priority for the client, and resort owner Roger Burnett, as Tim Garner, MiTek’s Commercial Director for the UK explains:

“The client was struggling to find a solution that would see the spa complete in an incredibly tight timeframe and deliver the quality of build he wanted to set itself at the height of luxury.

“We’re really pleased that Posi-Joist provided the solution to have the spa open and fully operational ready for the peak holiday season.

“Using Posi-Joist meant the floor joists and roof trusses were installed in just seven days, saving the client five weeks of build time, over traditional methods. It’s another great example of how MMC can reduce build times and deliver first-class results.”

Situated in Northern Lincolnshire, Laceby Manor Resort has become a destination for anyone looking for relaxation, sport, entertainment, leisure, and laid-back luxury in the northeast of the UK. The new 1500sqm Spa features treatment rooms, an indoor-outdoor pool, a sauna, herbal steam baths and everything you’d expect from one of the UK’s premier golf resorts.

The Spa was designed by architects, Keir Architecture and delivered in partnership with local trades which included DWB Timber Engineering, who manufactured the floor joists and roof trusses, using MiTek’s steel web-based systems, Posi-Joist and Posi-Rafter.

Tim adds: “It was high on the client’s priority of requirements that the floor especially was well constructed, removing any opportunity for shrinking and creaking. By using Posi-Joist the team didn’t use a single hanger in the construction of the floor, and made it perform even better and carry more load than standard joists, playing to Posi-Joists strengths to deliver wide open spans.

“The facility looks spectacular. We’re really proud that we were able to design the solution with our key customer DWB.”

The ease of installation was supported with the use of MiTek 3D, a digital tool which allowed for greater interaction between DWB, the architect and the end client. Using the software, they gained a greater understanding of the project and could collaborate effectively on the design complexities, identifying and resolving potential issues.
