Architects’ end-of-year optimism set to be punctured by latest lockdown

Confidence surged in December before new restrictions - and Brexit deal - announced

Architects’ workload expectations jumped to the highest level since the onset of the covid-19 pandemic last month as news of an approved vaccine turbo-charged confidence in the sector, the latest RIBA Future Trends survey has found.

But the positive mood is likely to be hit in this month’s figures which will take into account the Brexit deal, agreed on Christmas Eve, and the imposition of a third national lockdown by prime minister Boris Johnson last week which will see schools closed until at least 22 February.
