Practices have both adopted Employee Ownership Trust structures, part of a growing trend among UK architects
Two UK architecture practices, Buttress and HRI Munro Architecture, have announced they have become 100 per cent employee owned through Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) models. The moves place both firms among a growing number of studios adopting the structure, which is intended to give employees a collective stake and formal voice in business decisions.
Manchester- and Leeds-based Buttress said the shift is designed to embed its stated values of equity, sustainability and inclusive design into its governance as well as its work. Managing director Gavin Sorby said: “Becoming employee-owned is a natural extension of our purpose. It empowers our team, strengthens our independence, and ensures that our mission of designing for equity is reflected in our structure.”
