Rex Heuermann to be handed several life sentences in June for Gilgo Beach killings
A registered US architect has pleaded guilty to murdering eight women in the US state of New York following a decades-long police investigation.
Rex Heuermann appeared in a Suffolk County courtroom yesterday to confess to the Gilgo Beach killings on Long Island after initially being charged with three counts of murder in relation to the case in 2023.

The 62-year-old founder of RH Consultants & Associates was later charged with the murders of seven women but pleaded guilty yesterday to an eighth murder committed in 1996 as US media surrounded the building.
The case has been closely followed in the US press amid criticism of the length of time it took for the local police force to identify Heuermann as the killer of the women, who were all believed to be sex workers at the time of their deaths.
Heuermann, a divorced father of two, admitted to the murders of: Melissa Barthelemy, 24, Megan Waterman, 22, and Amber Costello, 27, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, Jessica Taylor, 20, Valerie Mack, 24, Sandra Costilla, 28 and Karen Vergata, 34.
He received several life sentences with the convictions to be formally handed down on 17 June.
Heuermann’s company was based at a suite on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan and was incorporated in 1994 by the architect, who has decades of experience dealing with the New York City Building Code and the New York State Code.
The practice’s website, which has been taken down, listed commercial refurbishment projects and work for globally-known retail brands.
