Row erupts after communities secretary blasts mayor’s housing delivery record

Sadiq Khan has accused the government of trying to “run roughshod” over his efforts to finalise a London Plan, after communities secretary Robert Jenrick ordered the document could not be published in its current form.

The mayor of London also criticised Jenrick’s “heavy-handed approach” and called for further devolution of funding for London housing.

Responding in a letter to Khan’s submission of his new London Plan last December, Jenrick savaged Khan’s record of housing delivery in the past three years averaging 37,000 homes, writing that it was “well below” the mayor’s own assessment of housing need.
