Detailed consent for 317-homes at urban extension set to create new “north-west gateway”

Pollard Thomas Edwards has secured planning permission for the first 317 homes of an urban extension to the north-west of Oxford that it says will create a new gateway for the city.

The practice said its Canalside at the Fletcher Priest-masterplanned Oxford North development for clients Hill Group and Thomas White Oxford would deliver a “well-rooted” new neighbourhood that supported the new innovation district nearby.

PTE’s proposals feature a large neighbourhood square with play-space, an apple orchard, exercise stations and a lawned area for community gatherings.

The scheme recieved reserved matters consent at a meeting of Oxford City Council’s planning committee last month.

PTE partner Justin Laskin said the proposals had been the result of a “truly collaborative” design process.

“Canalside at Oxford North will help to create a whole new community and a gateway to Oxford,” he said.

Hill Group secured outline consent for 480 new homes for the Oxford North project in March last year.

The development, near the intersection of the A34 and the A40, will feature new labs, offices and shops as well as new homes.
