Located on a constrained site behind the High Street, the development delivers 256 rental homes within walking distance of two major London transport hubs
Howells has completed Uncle Wembley Gardens, a 256-home build-to-rent (BTR) development in Brent, designed in partnership with HUB, Bridges Fund Management and Realstar.
The project marks the second phase of BTR delivery on the site, following a previous scheme completed in 2020 by the same team. The new development is located a short walk from Wembley Central and Wembley Stadium stations, providing direct links to central London.
Designed in response to its setting alongside the Chiltern mainline railway, the architecture is intended to be viewed at speed. Referencing the work of Erich Mendelsohn, the buildings feature horizontal banding in warm white brick, dark ribbon glazing and metal detailing. The two matching square-plan buildings rise from corbelled brick bases and are linked by a shared forecourt.
Each of the eight-storey blocks is organised around a central core, with one, two and three-bedroom apartments arranged on each floor. Apartments feature exposed concrete columns internally and recessed balconies.
The site, formerly backland behind Wembley High Street, has been redeveloped to contribute to the wider town centre. A walled garden and co-working pods are included within the scheme’s landscaped areas, along with mature trees providing natural shade at building entrances.
Roof terraces offer elevated views, while residents in duplex homes overlook a podium garden and children’s play space.
Howells partner Dav Bansal said the scheme plays a role in linking Wembley Park with the town centre and contributes to the area’s regeneration. Development partners also included JJ Rhatigan, Circle Development, Max Fordham, Whitby Wood and UBU Design.
