Nearly one-third of the 320 new homes being built will be affordable, says architect
HTA Design-penned proposals to overhaul a Nottinghamshire estate and build 320 new homes have been approved by local councillors.
The practice’s masterplan for the Yorke Drive Estate in Newark will see the demolition and redevelopment of 130 existing homes on the 1960s estate. Some of the new homes will be built on under-used land near local playing fields.
The revamped estate will feature a new park offering sports and leisure facilities as well as a new main access route.
HTA managing director Simon Bayliss said almost a third of the 320 new homes earmarked for delivery would be “affordable” and that a new avenue through the estate would connect a refurbished street and public realm.
“This approval is great news for the future of the Yorke Drive Estate, bringing the chance of better facilities, improved landscape, safer streets and, crucially, significant numbers of new homes for the local community,” he said.
“Throughout the extensive consultation process we received public support for improving links to the surrounding area and facilitating additional development. We look forward to continuing our work with the council and local community to deliver this vision.”
HTA was appointed to develop the masterplan by Campbell Tickell, consultants working for Newark and Sherwood district council.
