Architect gets green light for schemes in Chilterns and Sussex
JTP has won planning for two major schemes in a week.
It has won planning for a residential-led neighbourhood on a brownfield site in Chesham.
This will see 142 homes and 1,700sq m of business space plus a park and public realm on a plot known as 90 Asheridge Road which has been vacant for a decade.
Ian Fenn, the JTP partner leading the project, said: “The architectural language draws on the distinctive local character of Chesham, referencing key details and materials which are reinterpreted in a contemporary manner. The new residential streets feature high-quality hard and soft landscaping, creating a new street frontage on Asheridge Road and offering visual permeability and access into the site, with key focal buildings to terminate long views.”
A package of transport improvement measures is also provided, including funding for new bus stops and local junction improvements, as well as a £1m investment towards the expansion of local schools.
Meanwhile, Mid Sussex District Council approved JTP’s proposals for the first phase of a new mixed-use neighbourhood at Pease Pottage for client Thakeham.
This will eventually deliver 600 homes and a primary school in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty south of Crawley.
The first phase will include a community hub and 156 homes arranged into two distinct character areas to create visual interest and appeal to different sections of the market.
Andrew Dobson, JTP’s lead architect on the project, said: “The first area, around the site entrance, is a reinterpretation of local Edwardian red-brick architecture, with distinctive, repeated gable features and bay windows, creating a strong rhythm along the principal streets. The second area is more contemporary in appearance, with simple forms accentuated by projecting bays and porches clad in metal.”
Linked to the hub will be a 24-bed hospice designed by Building Ideas Architects.
