The 23-acre scheme in Kentish Town would deliver a new film studio campus alongside 1,000 homes, education facilities and public realm

SPPARC has unveiled emerging proposals for Camden Film Quarter, a 23-acre mixed-use scheme in Kentish Town that would deliver a new purpose-built studio campus.

Developed in partnership with real estate investor Yoo Capital, the masterplan is a response to rising demand for centrally located film and television production facilities within London. The scheme includes sound stages, post-production suites, editing rooms and collaboration space for creative companies.

The masterplan also outlines proposals for more than 1,000 mixed tenure homes, with Yoo Capital stating that 50 per cent of the housing would be affordable.

Two film and television schools are proposed within an on-site education hub facing a new park. This would include a new home for the London Screen Academy, a specialist sixth form college established in 2019 that offers vocational and academic courses for students aged 16 to 19 pursuing careers in film and television production.

Other elements of the scheme include retail, restaurants, leisure and community spaces, and new public realm.

The masterplan also seeks to improve access to the underutilised site with new cycling and pedestrian routes and a proposed bridge over the railway line linking Kentish Town to Hampstead Heath.

A distinctive masonry façade is intended to mirror in reverse the acoustic treatment of the interiors of the sound stages.

SPPARC principal Trevor Morriss said: “Continuing Kentish Town’s legacy as London’s pre-eminent destination for the creative industries, Camden Film Quarter is the film and television campus the capital city has long been waiting for.

“Innovating for the industry with its stacked studios, and as the first of its kind in Europe and one of only a handful in the world, our masterplan seeks to re-imagine what film studios can look like. Conceived as inclusive civic buildings, our ambition is to deliver a vibrant, open neighbourhood that brings creative industries together with local communities by blending production space with living, education, leisure and high-quality public realm.”

The vision for Camden Film Quarter was adopted by Camden Council as part of the Regis Road Area Guidance in March 2025. A planning application is expected later this year.

SPPARC and Yoo Capital are also working together on the £1.3 billion redevelopment of Olympia and the Saville Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue, which secured planning approval in April 2025.
