All homes will be for social rent in GLA-backed scheme
Dowen Farmer Architects’ plans for 200 new council homes on a brownfield site near Battersea Power Station have been given the green light by Wandsworth council.
The scheme, approved last Thursday, is part of the authority’s Homes for Wandsworth programme and will be delivered in partnership with Battersea Power Station.
The new homes will be delivered on a plot to the east of grade II* power station and will form part of the fifth phase of the power station masterplan.
The latest part of the 42-acre riverside neighbourhood will consist entirely of social rent homes operated by the council.
The mutli-layered residential building features communal gardens and a south-facing roof garden, with vertical detailing and brick lattice referencing the power station’s brickwork.
The ground level will include new public spaces and a tree-lined street.
The project will be financed within the council’s existing Housing Revenue Account and supported by GLA grant funding.
Camlins was the landscape architect on the project, while Buro Happold and MKP Engineering have provided engineering expertise.
Construction is set to begin in 2027 and complete in 2029.
