Applications for new course to open in January

Applications for the new course will open next month

The University of Cambridge has converted its Part 2 masters in Architecture degree apprenticeship into a regular part time course following the government’s decision to cut Level 7 funding.

Established in 2020, the highly-regarded course operates on the basis of three residential fortnights a year, allowing apprentices to achieve the qualification while in full-time employment.

But the university is now launching a regular part time course from September next year with applications to open from the middle of January 2026.

Students who complete the course can then proceed to a separate practice outcomes assessment, completion of which will enable them to register as an architect in the UK.

Course leader Timothy Brittain-Catlin said: “Whilst we strongly regret the government’s decision to abolish Part 2 apprenticeship funding, continuing the course in this way will offer an opportunity for post-Part 1s to continue their professional education at one of the world’s leading universities and without many of the restrictions that previously limited eligibility.”

Professor Hames WP Campbell added: “Our Degree Apprenticeship has proved highly successful with many of our students getting awards. We are thus hugely disappointed at the withdrawal of Government funding.

”However the conversion of this course to a Part-time degree means we can open it up to applicants from home and abroad and removes the requirement to have an employer willing to put you forward.

“As a proven pathway to accreditation, we think this part-time course offers a genuinely exciting degree giving students access to everything that the University of Cambridge has to offer.”
