Plans due to be submitted in December

Stanton Williams has unveiled updated designs for a research and life sciences hub planned for a site on St Mary’s Hospital campus in Paddington.

The practice has opened a second round of public consultation on the Fleming Centre, which will contain laboratories and research spaces dedicated to tackling antimicrobial resistance.

It will also contain a “discovery centre” hosting exhibitions, events and partnerships with local groups, along with a canalside cafe, a community pavilion and public green spaces.

St Mary’s Hospital Trust has said it is seeking to retain as much of the Bays building, an existing industrial building on the site, as possible following feedback heard during the first round of consultation.

The scheme is planned as a precursor to the redevelopment of the whole of the St Mary’s site as part of the Government’s New Hospital Programme.

St Mary’s Hospital Trust is aiming to submit a full planning application for the Fleming Centre this December with construction scheduled to begin next year and complete in 2028.

The project team includes Arup on civils and structures, Ramboll on MEP, CPC on costs and as project manager, Currie & Brown as principal designer and Montagu Evans as town planner.
