Chris Pickup brought in to grow presence in higher education market
Altrincham practice Pozzoni Architecture has hired Arcadis Manchester studio director Chris Pickup to strengthen its education team.
Pickup has joined the 60-staff practice as a director, focusing on growing the firm’s presence in the higher education market.

Pozzoni’s recent projects in the North West include the £31m Manchester Aquatics Centre, built by Kier for Manchester city council, Bruntwood Park’s Alderley Park Sports Centre and an £18m extra care scheme in Wythenshawe for Wythenshawe Community Housing Group.
The firm is also working on the 1,000-home mixed-use regeneration of Sutton town centre in south London.
Pickup worked at Canadian architecture practice IBI Group for 22 years, becoming studio director in 2022, before the firm’s acquisition by Arcadis later that year.
He was appointed as studio director at Arcadis’ Manchester office in May 2023, staying in the role for just under three years before his move to Pozzoni this month.
The practice said Pickup will work closely with director and education sector lead Catherine Mulley, along with the wider board of directors and senior leadership team to help drive the firm’s four-year business plan.
Mulley said Pickup will be “instrumental in expanding our education sector offering to clients, and will be working closely with our established team across our two studios in Altrincham and Brighton.
“His expertise integrates seamlessly to enhance our capabilities as well as strengthening our operational leadership. On behalf of the Board, I warmly welcome Chris to the business.”
