1960s modernist block to be ‘comprehensively reimagined’

Carter Gregson Gray has been appointed by the European arm of Japanese construction giant Kajima to design a redevelopment of a Richard Seifert office block in Farringdon.
The practice behind the recently approved transformation of the London Stock Exchange will undertake a “comprehensive reimagining and sensitive expansion” of the 27,000 sq ft building at 1 St John’s Square, according to Kajima Properties Europe (KPE).
The existing seven-storey building was designed by Richard Seifert & Partners and built in 1963.
CGG will lead the architectural design for the building’s redevelopment, working with KPE’s in‑house development team to deliver a “modern, sustainable and future‑focused workplace”.
The site has been chosen for its close proximity to the Elizabeth Line, Thameslink and London Underground stations, KPE said.
Other KPE office projects in the capital include Buckley Gray Yeoman’s 77 Coleman Street and Gibson Thornley’s 16 Berners Street and 27 Soho Square.
Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands has been approached for comment.
