Scheme will see 151 homes built above the water in Kent
Broadway Malyan-designed proposals for a 151-home development on a pier over the River Thames have won approval from Dartford council.
The development at Greenhithe will see the construction of a 16-storey tower, a lower-rise apartment block and 20 townhouses on a new structure extending 30m out over the water.
It is the final phase of Crest Nicholson’s 1,500-home Ingress Park development, and will be built on the site of a pier that served a former newsprint paper mill.
Broadway Malyan said the new pier would be 190m wide and that the overall scheme’s design would create a new riverside walk and a series of terrace viewing points to observe the nearby QE2 Bridge and the shipping along one of the UK’s busiest waterways.
Project lead John Dodson said the practice had worked closely with marine engineers to overcome a range of technical and regulatory challenges.
“The links into the wider riverside environment and unique ecology of the semi-saline marshland of the Ebbsfleet Peninsula will bring many visitors, making the circus a key point on their riverside walking route and creating a tranquil place for people to enjoy the unique landscape,” he said.
The project is due to start on site in June for completion in October 2021.
