Scheme known as A2 building renamed the Dock Shed

Work has been completed on the first commercial building at British Land’s Canada Water redevelopment.

Called Dock Shed, but also known by its previous name of the A2 building, the £100m scheme is a mixed-used scheme including a leisure centre, flexible workspace and retail.

Architect Allies & Morrison said the design is based on a “contemporary interpretation of Canada Water’s historic ‘Deal Shed’ timber warehouses”.

The five-storey building includes the leisure centre in its basesment which features an eight-lane, 25m swimming pool, a learner pool, a four-court sports hall, gym, two dance studios, a spin studio and a dedicated soft play area.

Called the Canada Water Leisure Centre, this will be run by Southwark council and open its doors in September.

Others working on the job included cost, M&E and fire consultant Aecom, structures consultant Waterman and façade consultant FMDC.

British Land is carrying out the Canada Water redevelopment in joint venture with Australian funder AustralianSuper.
