Fit-out by Architecture 00 and Studio Weave

Hawkins Brown has announced the completion of its £9.5m refurbishment and extension of a Victorian warehouse building in south London.

The practice added a new-build extension to the 1890 structure on Great Suffolk Street, Southwark, to deliver more than 3,700sq m of office new space, in a project that has been shortlisted for the RIBA London Awards 2018.

Fit-out was by Architecture00 and Studio Weave.

The building will become the new UK headquarters of global events agency George P Johnson.

Hawkins Brown partner Seth Rutt said the new-build element of the project “reinterprets the language of the existing building in a bold, contemporary way”.

“Our approach to retain as much of the existing structure as possible stemmed from both a design and an environmental impact perspective,” he said.

“The subsequent challenge was to create a new building, which finds the right balance between complementing the existing structure and creating a strong, contemporary and contextual extension.

“The resulting building offers generous, adaptable spaces that have been complemented by Architecture00 and Studio Weave’s fit-out, providing a versatile and future-proof place that inspires creativity and is enjoyable to be in.”

The client for the project was Morgan Capital Partners.
