wienerberger’s new CPD helps building designers understand their new responsibilities under the Building Safety Act

The Collaboration & Compliance – Navigating the Building Safety Act course invites delegates to explore how the BSA is reshaping design responsibilities for architects, and the products and tools they can use to support safer, more transparent specification.

The CPD gives an in-depth overview of the regulatory changes introduced by the BSA and what they mean for design and specification today. The course covers design-related duties under the act, helping architects to better understand their responsibilities for compliance.

Code for Construction Product Information

Delegates will also learn about the Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI) and how this helps to promote transparent, accurate product data.

The session explores how digital tools like Building Information Modelling (BIM) support traceability, record keeping, and the “golden thread” of information, and highlights practical tools and services from wienerberger to help architects specify with confidence, including CCPI-assessed products, BIM resources, and tailored specification support.

Marking a decisive shift towards enhanced safety standards, the BSA has redefined accountability throughout the build lifecycle, placing increased administrative, financial and creative pressure on those responsible for design.

Costs of compliance

The new CPD course follows the publication of wienerberger’s whitepaper, which commissioned independent research among 80 UK architects to better understand how the BSA is reshaping the industry. From rising liability to reduced creativity, the whitepaper highlights the real-world cost of compliance for architects – and explores how greater product and data transparency can help to ease the burden.

Paul Instrell, chief commercial officer at wienerberger, said, “Our industry whitepaper shone a light on how the BSA is changing architects’ workloads, responsibilities, and risk exposure. However, architects are not calling for less regulation; they are appealing for greater clarity – particularly as they navigate increasing compliance demands against legislation that is often ambiguous and open to interpretation.

“Our new CPD course provides essential guidance for architects as well as practical tools and solutions for how they can best collaborate with product manufacturers to create safer, more transparent buildings. We are committed to supporting architects in meeting their enhanced obligations under the BSA, so they can confidently balance creativity and compliance.”
