It has been arguably the most chaotic development process of any major project in the UK over the past decade but the latest proposals could well be the best way forward for Network Rail

How do you redevelop a site like Liverpool Street station? The grand Victorian interchange sums up many of the challenges the UK faces in upgrading its infrastructure.

Now the UK’s busiest station – having overtaken Waterloo following the opening of the Elizabeth line – is a complete mess. It is overcrowded, cluttered and hopelessly ill-equipped to deal with the 270,000 people who pass through it every weekday.
