Firm’s 140m-tall Z8 Tower to be built in heart of Chinese capital’s CBD
A ZHA-designed tower described by the practice as a “vertical city” is set to start construction in Beijing.
New images of the firm’s 140m-tall Z8 Tower show office floors combined with shopping, dining, cultural and leisure spaces in the heart of the Chinese capital’s central business district (CBD).
Facing the CBD’s Central Park, the scheme is aiming to bring the adjacent landscape into the heart of the building with a series of deep verandas and atria carved into its facade.
A tapering line of planted terraces will begin above a sunken courtyard at the base of the building and extend up the full height of the tower, maximising natural light and ventilation.
The facade will also include vertical fins extending from mullions to provide solar shading in summer and a thermal enclosure to minimise heat loss during Beijing’s cold winter months, when temperatures average below freezing.
Other ZHA schemes in Beijing include the city’s Daxing International Aiport, the 45-storey Leezaa SOHO tower and the Beijing International Exhibition Centre.
