The University of Cambridge has retained its grip on the top spot in an annual ranking of architecture schools.

Its BA (hons) course in architecture was given a 100 out of 100 rating in the Guardian’s just-published Best Universities in the UK 2023 guide, the fourth consecutive year it has scored 100 and occupied the No.1 position.

Other architecture schools have not fared so well, however. UCL drops from No.2 to No.4 in this year’s league table for architecture, after three years spent right behind Cambridge.

The University of Leeds makes a stratospheric leap into the 2023 rankings, rocketing in at No.2 after some years of failing to make the table at all with its architecture offer.

Other universities on the ascendant include Edinburgh, UWE Bristol, and Oxford Brookes.

Edinburgh occupied ninth-place last year but has risen to third in 2023; UWE Bristol is seventh this year, up from No.11 last year; and Oxford Brookes re-enters the top 10 at No.10 after being ranked at 13 last year.

Elsewhere on the table, Sheffield – which was top-ranked in 2019 – is static in fifth place; Cardiff drops from third to sixth; Queen’s, Belfast drops from sixth to eighth; and Liverpool drops one place to ninth.
