Ecological Building Systems is to showcase its EcoCocon straw wall system as part of a complete external wall build-up at the Structural Timber Conference.

The system combines prefabricated timber panels filled with compressed straw with Gutex wood fibre insulation and Pro Clima airtightness membranes and tapes.

According to the supplier, EcoCocon is made from 98% natural renewable materials and is designed to provide both structural and insulating functions within the external wall construction.

The conference display will show how the panels can be incorporated into a wider wall specification, with the wood fibre insulation and membranes used to address thermal performance, airtightness and moisture management.

The system has also been shortlisted in the Product/System Innovation Award category at this year’s Structural Timber Awards.

Neil Turner, UK technical manager at Ecological Building Systems, said: “Visitors will have the opportunity to see the system up close and understand how EcoCocon can be combined with complementary Gutex wood fibre insulation and Pro Clima airtightness solutions as part of a complete building envelope.”

The system will be exhibited at the Structural Timber Conference in Birmingham on 7 October.
