A Broadway Malyan-designed development that will provide 459 new homes around a new railway station on the outskirts of Reading has won unanimous approval from the borough council.

The practice’s Green Park Village scheme will deliver the homes – along with a gym and new retail units – in seven buildings.

Director of architecture James Cook said the scheme, created for developer St Edward Homes, was the sixth phase of the project to create a sustainable residential development near to the Green Park Business Campus.

“The buildings are arranged in a crescent and step up from the lakeside to mark the location of the new train station and the Station Square,” he said.

“A two-storey station pavilion building provides retail space and forms the gateway to Green Park Village.

“For this final phase we have worked hard to create a series of elegant and slender lakeside buildings that offer a high-quality environment for residents while providing views of the lakeside and the countryside beyond.”

Planning permission for a new school in the neighbourhood is also due to be sought this year.
