Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson Scholarship launched

The Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA) has launched a drawing competition with a prize of £1,200.

The Alexander “Greek” Thomson Scholarship – named after the Scottish Victorian architect known for his idiosyncratic interpretation of Greek and Egyptian detailing – is open to UK-based architects and architecture students under 30.

The travelling scholarship was established by Thomson’s peers after his death in 1875. It is awarded every three years for the “furtherance of the study of ancient classic architecture”. One of its early laureates was Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Thomson was one of the founders of the GIA.

Entrants must create an A5 portrait-shaped drawing, sketch or painting on the theme of “detail”.

The closing date is February 15. More details from the website.
