Three-level flat overlooking High Line is only ZHA resi project in New York

A Manhattan penthouse designed by Zaha Hadid has gone on the market for the first time priced at $50 million.

The apartment is in the only housing scheme designed by the late architect in New York City.

520 West 28th is a block of 39 flats beside the High Line in the Meatpacking district with a façade of hand-rubbed metal and glass.

The five-bed, six-bathroom triplex apartment is accessed via its own dedicated lift, with another inside. It also features a three-level sculptural staircase which the publicity material says was designed by Hadid herself.

The 636sq m flat has a 200sq m landscaped terrace and two wrap-around balconies plus a glass pavilion on the roof.

It has floor-to-ceiling heights of up to 11ft … and a monthly price tag for charges and taxes of $30,000.

Last year Hadid said: “I’ve always been fascinated by the High Line and its possibilities for the city. Decades ago, I used to visit the galleries in the area and consider how to build along the route. It’s very exciting to be building there now.”
