Milton Keynes practice David Lock Associates is the only UK firm invited to work on plans to build a new town in the middle of China.

The company is one of five producing a conceptual masterplan for an extension to Wuhan.

The 20 year strategy will add 2 million people to the city’s population and is intended to underpin its role as the innovation and technology capital of the Hubei region.

David Lock managing director Lawrence Revill said: “The scale of development and change is very challenging but we are convinced that our UK experience in flexible development frameworks has much to offer.”

The firm said it has to complete its part of the preliminary ideas – with the remainder being carried out by four Chinese firms – at the end of next month.
