Surely the point of a consultation on building standards is to determine in what way the recommendations are limited (Debate August 30)?
It goes without saying there will be additional points. Both yes and no arguments to some extent are saying the same thing — good in parts, could do more or less, but above all raise standards and create better outcomes.
Of course the focus purely on housing standards avoids the more thorny issues of how places are created, long-term quality is delivered at affordable prices and rents and how stewardship and governance will be encouraged and retained over the long term.
