Maccreanor Lavington, Jestico & Whiles, Feilden Clegg Bradley, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and PRP Architects are all in the running to design a new sustainable neighbourhood in east London.

The practices are attached to four consortiums shortlisted by the London Development Agency to build more than 600 homes at the Royal Docks.

The LDA wants to build a sustainable neighbourhood on a brownfield site at Gallions Quarter near Gallions Reach DLR station and City airport.

At this year’s Mipim property show in Cannes, the agency announced its intention to capitalise on the Olympic-driven transformation of east London by developing a number of sites.

The four shortlisted developers are: Swan Housing Association with PRP Architects; Notting Hill Housing Trust with Maccreanor Lavington, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, AHMM and Jestico & Whiles; Kier with Space Craft Architects; and Gladedale, also with Jestico & Whiles.

The four consortiums will receive a full briefing over the next month and then draw up detailed plans. A winner is expected be chosen by March.

Conor McAuley, Newham Council’s councillor for regeneration and strategic planning, said: “It’s about time that the Royal Docks fulfilled its potential. This terrific waterfront location is an ideal incubator for new homes, employment and community facilities. Transport links are second to none and we’re looking for innovative building designs coupled with clever uses of open spaces.”
