John Pawson’s design for the new Design Museum (News January 27) looks just fine to me.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I prefer the interior spaces of museums to be clean, moderate and refined. I was not looking for a cutting-edge approach for the interior spaces.
The reasons for visiting the new museum will be the building and the objects within. I think Pawson is a good choice for designing a no-nonsense, practical space for exhibits with integrity.
It’s also encouraging that we are able to find effective new uses for fantastic old buildings. This should be a key skill that contemporary architects are able to bring to their design armoury. We do not always need to start from the ground up to give a client a tailored use that will be effective for them.
