Architects Pollard Thomas Edwards and Buckley Gray Yeoman are set to take part in workshops to feed residents’ views into plans for new homes and workspace in Brixton.

Last year Lambeth Council’s cabinet agreed to work with developer London Square on the creation of around 240 new homes in Brixton Station Road and the repurposing of the authority’s International House office building in Canterbury Close. The proposals will also include public-realm improvements in Brixton Station Road and Popes Road.

Pollard Thomas Edwards is responsible for the new-homes element of the proposals, which are earmarked for the current site of the Pop Brixton temporary venue, designed by Carl Turner Architects.

Buckley Gray Yeoman is working on the redevelopment of the International House office building, which will be retained and refurbished to provide around 7,800sq m of workspace for local businesses, entrepreneurs and start-ups.

Landscape specialist Exterior Architecture is responsible for the public realm.

Lambeth Council said the public workshops for the proposals were expected to take place from March, with a planning application due to be submitted later in the year.

Danny Adilypour, Lambeth’s deputy leader, said input from the workshops would help shape the final proposals.

“We are committed to involving the local community in these exciting plans for the centre of Brixton, which will deliver genuinely affordable housing, space for local businesses and better facilities for residents,” he said.

“Their contribution will be vital to making sure the project reflects the views of local people.

“This is a real chance to deliver affordable homes and workspace in a way that places environmental sustainability, active citizenship and training and job opportunities for local residents at its heart.”

The Pop Brixton venue’s lease runs until this autumn. International House has been in use as affordable workspace since 2018. Its current lease is also due to expire later this year.
