Practice said turnover was boosted by a string of new commissions in London

Turnover at HTA Design fell slightly this year while the firm’s operating profit increased by 17% despite a “dramatic” slowdown in project delivery.

The housing practice posted revenue of £18.75m in the year to 31 March 2025, down from £19.5m the year before, but its operating profit increased from £3.6m to £4.27m.

The firm’s latest accounts cover a period of widespread setbacks for high-rise residential schemes caused by lengthy delays in securing gateway 2 approval from the Building Safety Regulator.

The practice said the delivery and construction part of its business had “slowed dramatically as projects were delayed by the impact of the Building Safety Act”.

But it said its numbers had been boosted by a string of new commissions in Ealing, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, and Wandsworth, and successful design competitions.

The firm’s number of employees remained stable, increasing from 199 to 203 during the period, while its salary costs fell from £8.5m to £7.8m.
