Existing care home to be replaced with larger seven-storey building
Pozzoni Architecture’s plans to redevelop a care home near Battersea Park have been given the green light by Wandsworth council.
The existing Meadbank Nursing Home at 12 Parkgate Road will be demolished and replaced by a larger seven-storey building under proposals drawn up by the Manchester-based firm for client Richmond Villages, which is part of Bupa.
Wandsworth councillors voted in support of a recommendation from planning officers to approve the application in April, voting six in favour with one against and one abstention.
The nursing home currently on the site is a four-storey building containing 176 beds which was first registered in 1960. Its replacement will have 139 beds and suites, but additional communal space, wellness facilities and specialist care units.
Facilities will include a swimming pool,a gym and fitness studio, spa facilities, a hair, nail and beauty salon, a hobby and craft room, roof terraces, a cafe, bar and lounge, and therapy and treatment rooms.
The project team include Alan Wood & Partners on civils and structures, Hoare Lea on MEP and fire, Turley on planning, Smith Jenkins on heritage and TPS as project manager.
