Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt has secured planning permission for a £25m build-to-rent scheme in Cardiff for developer and operator Platform.

The 206-unit scheme will be built on the site of a former builders’ merchants on Dumballs Road, south of Cardiff Central Station, and will be 12-storeys high at its tallest.

In addition to the homes the 14,783 sq m scheme will also include 622 sq m of ground-floor retail space, eighth-floor roof terraces, communal dining facilities, a residents’ lounge and a fitness centre.

Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt said its design had been envisaged as a “family of contemporary warehouses” to reflect the site’s industrial heritage, and that its “simple” material palette of concrete, brick and anodized aluminium would “knit the new development into the local context”.

The practice said the project was due to complete in the first quarter of 2021.
