Communities minister Baroness Andrews this week unveiled the government’s new regional plan for the North-east of England.

The strategy, which aims to deliver almost 130,000 new homes by 2021, was published following wide public consultation. The government claims it will spur economic development, creating up to 73,000 new jobs by 2016 in key employment locations, along with associated infrastructure.

Baroness Andrews said: “This plan sets out a vision for reducing the social and economic gaps between the North-east and other regions [in the UK], while building on [the North-east’s] distinctive strengths and assets."
