Green light for proposals by Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville

Plans to turn Manchester’s former Stock Exchange into a 35-bedroom boutique hotel have been given the go-ahead by the city council.

The scheme, created by AEW Architects for ex-Manchester United players Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville, will also see private members’ space, a restaurant, and a rooftop bar added to the grade II listed 1906 building.

Mike Ralph, head of planning at consultant Zerum, said the development would be a high quality scheme that would regenerate a long vacant landmark building.

“This planning approval creates an important platform for our client to finalise its operational requirements before hopefully pressing on with the implementation of what is an exciting scheme for this important city centre property,” he added.

Another AEW scheme for Giggs and Neville will formally open tomorrow. Hotel Football, which includes a 133 bed hotel and restaurant, has been built opposite United’s Old Trafford football ground
