Again the current government has failed to think through the consequences of implementing changes to thoughtful and well-intentioned planning legislation and policies developed over the decades.
By allowing external solid wall insulation the designation “permitted development” (bdonline January 14), how long will it be before one unlisted building in a row or terrace of listed properties is covered in the unsightly stuff, destroying its appearance and the settings of neighbouring listed buildings or adjoining conservation areas?
Imagine the expletives police at the gates would hear from the mouths of government ministers if the black brickwork of No 10 Downing Street were to be over-clad in this fashion. That could develop into a case of “arrested development”.
