Building replaces 1930s flats
Stanhope Gate Architecture has won planning for a new apartment building in Mayfair.
The eight-storey building replaces a 1930s apartment block on Upper Brook Street.
The original 1750s building that occupied the site was grander in scale and detail than its neighbours, said Alireza Sagharchi, principal of Stanhope Gate Architecture.
“So in discussion with Westminster planning and conservation officers, it was agreed that the replacement building should be of similarly unique character, whilst continuing to integrate with the neighbouring Georgian context,” he said.
The contemporary classical building will be the first of its kind to be built in Mayfair for decades.
The pedimented stone façade will be constructed in traditional load-bearing masonry.
