BD columnist Paul Morrell and architects from Sheppard Robson, Zed Factory and Bond Bryan to speak at green conference
BD columnist Paul Morrell will address whether sustainability can survive the upcoming recession at a two-day conference next month.
Morrell, a CABE commissioner and former senior partner at cost consultants Davis Langdon, will give a keynote address at the Economics of Sustainability event on 17 and 18 November in the City of London. Morrell will tackle the challenge of delivering sustainable buildings in a changing economic environment, which will take place at the Foster and Partners-designed Bishops Square scheme in Spitalfields central London.
Issues that will be tackled include maximising return from green buildings, selecting low carbon materials, sustainable refurbishments and managing construction waste.
Architects speaking at the event include Alan Shingler, head of sustainability at Sheppard Robson, Bond Bryan director Jon Bond who will speak about his firm's carbon neutral 'factory of the future' and Steve Harris, a senior architect at Zed Factory.
Other speakers at the event will include:
- Two senior figures from the Olympic Development Agency, Dan Epstein and Chris Lee, who will outline the ambitious targets for waste recovery and recycling on the landmark project.
- UK Green Building Council chief executive Paul King, who will introduce a half day examining the challenge of making the existing stock of buildings more efficient
