Is design review an inadequate substitute for skilled planners in the local council?

Julie Tanner’s comments on collaboration are spot on (News May 24). The key to successful design review continues to be collaboration and early engagement.

By submitting a scheme at an early stage a panel can help ensure that a clear and strong enough “big idea” is outlined that will drive a scheme forward. Design review works and it’s impressive to see that message getting through.
