Victorian-style ‘urban village’ to include around 785 homes
A masterplan for Forest Gate town centre, east London, drawn up by Buckley Gray Yeoman will be launched for public consultation this week.
The proposal includes around 785 homes and shops, restaurants and cafés with public space and play areas. The brief specified the creation of a Victorian-style “urban village” to match the area’s existing character.
Developer Obsidian is behind the scheme, would take advantage of the improved transport links Crossrail will bring to the area it completes in 2017.
Matt Yeoman, director at Buckley Gray Yeoman, said: “Forest Gate is an incredibly strong community and our objective is to provide the people that live there with modern and extended facilities.”
Buckley Gray Yeoman also designed two buildings in the first development phase, a nine-storey building of 150 homes and a five-storey block with ground level retail and 32 apartments above.
Construction is scheduled to start next year and continue until 2017.
