Scheme for Welsh capital boasts 22-storey block
Bennetts Associates has submitted plans to deliver more than 300,000 sq ft of office space in Cardiff city centre, including a 22 storey building.
Part of the wider Capital Quarter development, the proposed scheme for local developer JR Smart comprises three blocks of 22, 12 and 10 storeys, with retail units at ground floor and office accommodation on top.
The 22-storey block will be one of the Welsh capital’s tallest buildings if it is built.
The development on John St, would form a focal point at the northern end of Lloyd George Avenue, linking Cardiff’s retail hub to the north and Callaghan Square to the south.
The scheme also includes two public squares surrounded by shops and restaurants.
Peter Fisher, director at Bennetts Associates, said: “This is a very prominent site for Cardiff and the design aims for a relatively tall composition, as it is on axis with the key view from the bay along Lloyd George Avenue and has a backdrop of recently consented or completed major buildings. The arrangement of three linked blocks is derived from the site’s triangular perimeter and the need to address external spaces with radically different scales.”
