I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you. Competitions are a massive waste of resources for a profession that really doesn't have that much leeway in terms of money coming in and staff. Most competition teams will be working unpaid overtime to meet the unreasonable turnaround expected by the client/project team or their bosses. On top of that, competitions are rarely a level playing field, with favorites picked beforehand, and cost/programme trumping design.

Having worked on a number of successful and unsuccessful competitions, I steer clear of them whenever possible.
