Populous breaks ground on Argentine Formula 1 project
$10 million project will bring F1 to Buenos Aires
Populous has broken ground on its $10 million Formula 1 project in Argentina.
Phase one of the Velociudad Speedcity circuit in Buenos Aires, due to be completed in 14 months, includes a 3.1 km track, pit-lane, 4x4 off-road track and team garages.
The second part of the project will extend the circuit to 4.7km, to qualify for F1 events, and will be ready by the end of 2014.
The flat 63ha site requires the movement of a million cubic metres of soil to create a “topographically exciting and challenging medium-speed circuit”, said John Rhodes, associate principal of Populous.
