Scheme is for homes at 1970s Barnet estate

Plans by Mae for over 1,000 new homes at the site of a 1970s housing in north London have been unveiled.

The Grahame Park estate opened in 1971 and originally comprised close to 1,800 homes.

But the estate has been undergoing a revamp since 2007 and the first part of the next phase of work, known as Stage B, has now been submitted to planners at Barnet council.

Mae is lead architect and masterplanner on the development at Colindale which is being developed by housing association Genesis.

Work on the first homes will start next year

Avanti Architects and Karakusevic Carson Architects are also working on the deal approved by Barnet council, which will see 630 of the estate’s existing properties replaced over the next 10 years with 1,083 homes.

The homes have a mix of tenures including social and affordable rent, shared ownership and private sale.

A new council-run community hub will also be built and include a nursery, GP surgery, hall and health facilities.

Work on the first homes is expected to start next spring and finish by summer 2020.
