HOK and Populous appointed to lead Dubai's World Expo bid
Five cities vying to host the event
HOK and Populous have been appointed to work on Dubai’s bid to host the 2020 World Expo.
The practices are working on a masterplan for the site where the six-month exposition would be held.
Five cities are vying for the right to host the event, including Sao Paolo in Brazil and Izmir in Turkey. Dubai made its intentions known at the 11th hour late last year.
A decision will be made next year by the Paris-based Bureau of International Expositions (BIE).
The completed masterplan will form part of the UAE’s bid dossier which is due to be submitted to the BIE in December.
The proposal for the 438ha site at the Dubai Trade Centre is for a specialised, highly connected environment. Arup and entertainment designers Thinkwell are also part of the masterplan team.
