Container home gives style on the cheap
London-based Benjamin Garcia Saxe Architecture has built a private home from two shipping containers outside San Jose.
Construction was carried out by clients Marco Peralta and Gabriela Calvo themselves.
The metal walls were cut to create windows and to link them together. The scrap metal was then used to create a roof between the two that allows for constant cross ventilation.
The final cost of the house was just $40,000, lower than the cost of social housing provided for the country’s poor.
