Carey Jones’s £19 million cylindrical Candle House development in Leeds has been completed.

The residential tower is the final element of the city centre Granary Wharf scheme, also masterplanned by the practice.

The curved design, with its stepped brickwork, is supposed to echo the viaducts and railway arches that formed a key part of the area’s industrial heritage.

Designed to maximise views, the 160 flats feature full-height windows and copper balconies, with the living areas at the outer edge and bathrooms and storage in the centre of each floorplan.

The canal-side building also has a communal rooftop terrace for residents.

  • I agree Tim. But I quite like it anyway.

  • I agree Muhammad, the building looks good. I just wasn't so keen on the flowery prose that went with it :-) That's far too much agreement for a readers comments section :-)
