Barbie's Los Angeles home sells for $10.2m
Architect Barbie reveals clear influence of Le Corbusier
Less than two years after getting her part III, Architect Barbie has just sold a house in Los Angeles for $10.2 million.
Well it’s actually the Bel Air home of Barbie’s real-life “mom”, ex-Mattel chief executive Jill Barad, and it was designed while Barbie was still at high school by Santa Monica architect Steve Giannetti of Giannetti Architects in 1992.
The Mediterranean-style mansion originally went on the market in 2010 for $15 million but the price has gradually fallen.
The 865sq m property on West Sunset Boulevard, with its six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, living room, family room, library, games room and multi-level master suite, finally sold this week.
The estate agent said: “Understated elegance echoes throughout, from coffered ceilings, marble floors and distressed oak inlay floors to 19th-century French fireplaces. Ideal for entertaining, the lavish grounds encompass a pool and spa with limestone backsplash and lion’s head fountains, an outdoor pavilion with built-in grill and an adjacent half-acre flat lawn.
“This estate truly offers a rare opportunity to live in a timeless work of art on one of LA’s most-famed boulevards.”
