Metropolitan Workshop has submitted a planning application for an “affordable” housing development in south-west London with a “pleated” 24-storey tower.

The Mapleton Crescent scheme, on a constrained site in Wandsworth town centre, is the largest to date for Pocket Homes which sells its homes at a 20% discount off local prices to local first-time buyers earning less than £71,000.

The tower, which will contain 86 flats, 63 of them “affordable”, will be clad with three different kinds of green pleated ceramic panel.

It will include shared amenity spaces including balconies, rooftop gardens and a riverside terrace to encourage social interaction.

It will include cycling facilities but no car parking spaces.

  • Potentially the start of something great.
Met Workshop always do a great job with contextualising their work straight off the bat.

    Exciting stuff!

Hard to judge this scheme from the images/ hard to understand the scale -the model shows no context and the perspective fails to look up ("yes I have no idea what the upper reaches of the Gherkin look like because I dont like stretching my neck in an ungainly way?") -

  • Am I wrong or do I sense a bit of “Wright” in there : as in FLW?
